Frequently asked questions
Short answers to what drivers ask most often: STK deadlines, documents, emission tests.
Vehicle inspection and emissions
When is my STK due?
A new car goes for its first STK within 4 years of registration, then every 2 years. The date of the next inspection is on the inspection sticker on the rear number plate and in the report from your last STK.

Link to the answerDo I have to go to an STK where I live?
No. You can take your vehicle to any STK in Czechia that inspects your type of vehicle.
Stations by region and district
Link to the answerWhere can I get an emission test?
Most STK stations measure emissions on site during the same visit. Otherwise a separate emission test station will do it, and you then show the report at the STK.

How often does a car need an STK?
A new car goes for its first STK within 4 years of registration, then every 2 years. The same applies to vans up to 3.5 tonnes.
Link to the answerWhen does a motorcycle need an STK?
A motorcycle goes for its first STK within 6 years of registration, then every 4 years. Emissions are not tested on motorcycles.
Link to the answerHow often do trucks, buses and taxis need an STK?
Trucks over 3.5 tonnes, buses, heavy trailers and also taxis, rental cars and emergency vehicles go for an STK every year – the first time within 1 year of registration.
Link to the answerWhen does a trailer need an STK?
Trailers from 750 kg to 3.5 tonnes and light trailers with brakes follow the car rules: first within 4 years, then every 2 years. Unbraked trailers up to 750 kg: first within 6 years, then every 4 years.
Link to the answerCan I go for an STK before it expires?
Yes, at any time. But the next deadline counts from the day of the inspection, not from the original date – if you go a month early, your next STK is also a month earlier.
Link to the answerWhat happens if my STK has expired?
The operator of a vehicle without a valid inspection commits an offence. The fine can be up to CZK 50,000, in a fast-track procedure up to CZK 5,000. No penalty points are given. Go for an STK as soon as possible – an expired deadline is not extended in any way.
Link to the answerWill anyone remind me that my STK is due?
If you have a Czech data box, a reminder is sent to it about 60 days before the deadline. The date of the next inspection is also on the sticker on the rear number plate and in the report from your last STK.

What should I bring to the STK?
The vehicle registration certificate (the small registration card) is enough. If you had the emissions tested beforehand at a separate station, bring the test report too. You do not need the large vehicle logbook or an ID card.
Link to the answerHow much does an STK cost?
Each station sets its own prices; there is no official price list. According to overviews from 2025–2026, a regular car inspection costs roughly CZK 1,100–1,400 and the emission test another CZK 600–1,000. Verified prices of individual stations are shown on the station page with the date of verification.
Stations by region and district
Link to the answerDo I need to book an STK?
It depends on the station. Some only take booked customers, others also walk-ins, but the wait is usually longer. The safest option is to call – the phone number is on each station page.
Link to the answerWhen is the STK least busy?
For each station we show on which days and at which hours it carries out the most and the fewest inspections – calculated from actual inspection records in the open data of the Czech Ministry of Transport.
Link to the answerCan someone other than the owner take the car to the STK?
Yes. The station does not need a power of attorney or an ID – just bring the vehicle with its registration certificate.
Link to the answerEmission tests
Is the emission test part of the STK?
Yes, emissions are tested at every regular inspection. You can have them tested directly at the STK or beforehand at a separate emission test station and then show the report at the STK.
Link to the answerHow long is the emission test report valid?
The report from a separate emission test station is valid for 30 days. You must bring the car to the STK within that time, otherwise the test has to be repeated.
Link to the answerAre emissions tested on motorcycles and electric cars?
No. Emissions are not tested at the STK on motorcycles and other category L vehicles or on electric cars.

What do defects A, B and C mean?
A is a minor defect – the car passes and you just fix it. B is a major defect – the car is temporarily roadworthy, you may drive it for 30 days and must go for a repeat inspection. C is a dangerous defect – the car is not roadworthy and the inspection sticker is removed.
Link to the answerHow long can I drive with a major defect?
With a major defect (B) you may drive for 30 days. If you come for the repeat inspection within that time, only the defects found are checked; after 30 days the car needs a full inspection again.
Link to the answerWhat happens if I drive a car that is not roadworthy?
Driving a vehicle with a dangerous defect (C) is an offence: the fine is CZK 4,000–10,000 (on the spot CZK 2,500–3,500) and 6 penalty points.
Link to the answerRegistration check and import
When do I need a registration check?
A registration check is needed when the vehicle is transferred to a new owner, when it is imported and when it is exported. It verifies that the vehicle matches the register (for example the VIN) and is carried out by vehicle inspection stations. It is not required for a change of operator in a lease.
Stations by region and district
Link to the answerWhen does an imported car need an STK?
For a car imported from the EU, the first deadline counts from the first registration in the country of origin. For an import from outside the EU, it counts from the inspection for registration: a car then goes for an STK within 2 years and every 2 years after that.
Link to the answerAbout naSTK
Is naSTK an official site of the STK or the ministry?
No. naSTK is an independent portal run by BestSite s.r.o. It takes station data from the open data of the Czech Ministry of Transport, but we are neither a vehicle inspection station nor a government body. It is free for drivers.
Link to the answerHow up to date is the data on naSTK?
We load the register of stations and the inspection records from the open data of the Czech Ministry of Transport every day. Opening hours and prices are shown only when verified by hand, always with the date of verification.
Link to the answerCan I book an STK through naSTK?
Not yet – we are preparing online booking. Until then, book directly with the station; its phone number and website are on the station page.
Link to the answerThe station details are wrong – what should I do?
Write to us at info@nastk.cz with what is wrong. We fix contacts, opening hours and prices ourselves; addresses and register data are corrected by the Ministry of Transport and the change appears here the next day.
