Emission test: when, where and how long is it valid?

Emissions are tested at every regular STK, except for motorcycles (category L) and electric cars. You can have them tested at the emission bay of the STK or beforehand at a separate emission test station – you must then show the report at the STK within 30 days.

Which vehicles have their emissions tested?

The emission test is part of the inspection of vehicles with a combustion engine. It is not carried out on category L vehicles (motorcycles, tricycles, quads) or on electric cars.

Where are emissions tested?

Either at the emission bay of a vehicle inspection station or at a separate emission test station. You will find both on naSTK – for each station we list the fuels it is authorised for (petrol, diesel, LPG, CNG, LNG).

How long is the emission test report valid?

If more than 30 days pass between the test and the inspection at the STK, the test is disregarded. The day of the inspection is the day of the check at the STK, not the day of the emission test.

My car runs on LPG or CNG. Where should I go?

The station must be authorised for your fuel. The page of each station on naSTK lists its fuels according to the register of the Ministry of Transport.

What if the car fails the emission test?

The test result is reflected in the inspection assessment according to the severity of the defect. What happens with a major or dangerous defect is described in the guide What if my car fails the STK.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need an emission test for an electric car?

No. Emissions are not measured on electric cars, but they still have a vehicle inspection like other cars.

Are emissions measured on a motorcycle?

No. Emissions are not measured on category L vehicles.

Can I have the emission test done somewhere other than the STK I am going to?

Yes, at any emission test station authorised for your fuel. Then present the report at the STK within 30 days.
